2 points is 2 points is 2 points...

Wow, that was ugly. 8-5 win over BrewBakers.

I haven't played in the last couple of weeks (thus the delay between posts), and boy did it show for the first period last night.

We dominated for most of the first, and I didn't see a shot until about 5 minutes into the game. The first show was a slapped from just above the circles, near the left boards. The shooter rang the right post, the left post, and got it in. As one of my team mates said, it was the only hole, and even then, the puck missed my right pad by a half inch. I should have been out a bit more, and on my angle. There shouldn't have been room to hit the post from there.

We tied it up, but about 10 minutes in, I saw my second shot, another slapped, from about the left face off dot. I miss-timed it, fanned with my stick as I dropped and tried to play it away, and got beat five hole.

Ouch. 10 minutes. Two shots. Two goals. Meanwhile, the guy at the other end was playing his ass off, the bastard. (Seriously: I know him, and I don't hold any grudge, he's a great goalie).

Second period goals were not my fault. Third one, they got about 4 shots at. I was stretched out, lying on the ice, foot against the post, and they got enough wacks at it to lift it over me. Fourth one, a player was left open behind me, and she caught and released the pass nicely, and put it over my shoulder and under the bar, hitting the top-rear iron. (point of ref: I'm a 6' tall guy, so there's not much room over my shoulder when I'm on top of my crease, which I was - it was a great shot). My D said he just didn't figure she was a threat so he let he go.

Great. She's one of 2 women in a league of experienced men, and she's wearing a helmet from the local University's women's team. If she wasn't good, she wouldn't be out there, or wearing that helmet. Don't you love defensemen?

I made a huge glove save on a breakaway, though, and that rallied the guys. We tied it up in the second, 4-4.

Third was all us. We scored a lot (I think my counterpart was getting worn out from seeing so many shots), and I shut things down. They got one on a slapshot that was tipped through a screen with about a minute to go, making it 8-5, but that one wasn't my fault.

Moral of the story? Play more often so it doesn't take half a game to get it together. -sigh-
