Pat Myself on the Back
OK, so last night, I made one of the best saves I've ever made. It was in a losing effort, but it almost made the night worth while.
I was hugging my left post, opponent had puck wide on the left. Olympic ice, things spread way out. The guy passes to someone standing back door to me, who one-times it. I slid, two pad stack, in a major Mike Vernon way, totally unlike my strictly butterflying self. I stop the shot off my pads, but the guy gets the rebound. (yes, my defense was MIA again) The shooter has all day to pull back on his back hand and shoot one up and over me.
I lifted my right (top) leg up (sideways) and then kicked the puck out of the air when he shot it. Not just a foot off the ice, mind you, but a good three plus feet off the ice.
All I could hear was Carp, a goalie buddy, clapping his ass off in the stands, cheering for me.
Custom pads - $1000. Glove - $300. Making one of the best saves ever, and having a witness? Priceless!
