Ugly Winning is Still Winning

One of my best friends plays on an opposing team in the same league as me. The first time we met this year, we combined for a whopping 7-8 (my loss) 15 goal game. It was pretty embarassing, considering we have both played A league hockey, and this is pretty much C league hockey. I remember calling him up after the game, and saying, "My one consolation is that you only suck a tiny bit less than I do." We had a good laugh, but neither of us were happy about a 15 goal game.

Jump ahead to late last week. We both had decent, but not great, first periods. My defense not only gave up a bunch of odd man rushes, but the last man back never took the pass (well, never stopped it, anyway). That gave them a couple. Second period was more of the same, but I was ready for it. I made some great stops, and they still got a couple from odd man situations. They got another when I made a great save on an odd man rush, only to knock the puck under myself trying to collect the rebound.

We had sworn it would be a better game, and the second ended something like 6-4 or 6-5.

Third period, I was on, and my defense was still out to lunch. We picked up 3, so I can't complain too much. I'd rather have wins than the lowest GAA.

Final score? 9-6 (my win). Another f-ing 15 goal game. I told my buddy to take consolation in the fact that I only sucked a little less than him...
