Moose Gone Wild!
I was starting to worry. With our team GAA at something like 4.8, and our team GFA at something like 1.8, winning did not seem to be in the picture for the Moose.
The new jerseys came in, and that lifted people's sprits, but not their game. After a 3-3 tie, we dropped 3 games in a row. The first was a tight battle that ended 5-6, and believe it or not, I didn't play that bad. The next ended 1-8. I held our opponents through 2 periods, but with little defensive support, was too tired in the third to keep making crazy saves, and got beat 5 times in one period. We followed that with an underwhelming 2-6 loss. I let in one bad one, but the other 5 were good.
Which brought us around to our last game. Tired and rushed, I got to the rink late, so I got no warmup. I also chose not to wear the Moose jersey. Don't get me wrong, I love the way they look, I just needed to change something up, and that was easiest. I went back to my larger, heavier, older, all-black jersey.
Whatever it was, it worked. We pulled out a great 4-3 win that was (pat pat pat) a goaltending win. I made a pile of great saves, including against one-timers that should really have gone in. The other team was pissy and chippy all night. I got hacked from beginning to end, and run more than once. Despite my intention of holding my temper, I finally socked somebody in the third period (square in the face as he cut through the crease, bumping me... again.) I managed to hold that fine edge of aggression all night, and at the end, we added another W.
Tonight should be interesting. I face a bunch of guys I know, who I have a healthy respect for. They are a solid team, and know how to move and shoot the puck. I expect this to be a tough test.
